The Preservation of Heritage
From day one, I cared for Deirdre like a parent does for their child. Her gleaming Alpinweiß coat has seen countless clay bar treatments and detailings, her engine lovingly tuned and maintained to keep her spirit alive. And oh, the joy of enhancing her beauty and performance! Her H&R Sport Springs, Bilstein HD shocks, and Alpina-styled 15-inch wheels gave her the perfect blend of refinement and thrill.
Anyone who caught a ride in Deirdre found an interior that defied the odds. The leather seats remained firm and flawless, the dash was devoid of cracks, a rare miracle in California’s sun-soaked world. Even her rubber seals clung to their duty despite the passage of time. Her soft top and original black canvas hardtop were nothing short of pristine, proving that timeless craftsmanship can truly endure.
Endearing Patina
Of course, no classic car is complete without its quirks—and Deirdre has hers in abundance. Her antenna stood proudly at half-mast, like a flag waving hello. Her computer occasionally lit up into a red frenzy about imaginary brake line issues, and her stereo dreamed of a tasteful upgrade. Flashing the brights might have shorted a fuse once in a blue moon, but who doesn’t love a little unpredictability? Even her AC, despite a recharge in 2017, blew warm air now and then.
Farewell, For Now
Recently, I prepared to move from the sunny expanses of California to the bustling streets of Manhattan, I found myself facing an emotional goodbye. Congested New York was not the place for her, and a rust-free, salt-free life was what she deserved. Deirdre had been more than transportation; she was nostalgic escape, a work in progress, and a beloved friend. She carried me through life’s adventures with grace and dependability, and parting with her felt like saying goodbye to a piece of my heart.
As bittersweet as it was to part with her, I’m overjoyed that Deirdre found a new owner who shares my passion for cars. A friend, also deeply involved in Sacramento’s incredible car community, has welcomed her into their garage and heart. Sacramento’s thriving automotive network will ensure Deirdre remains among enthusiasts who understand and celebrate her history, character, and iconic quirks.
Deirdre, you’ll always be my beloved companion. Thank you for the journey!
